China is a healthier place to travel than many other parts of the world. Big cities like Beijing and Shanghai have very sophisticated medical facilities and their services are very cheap. The SOS medical emergency telephone number is 120, but the SOS number does not provide English language service.

Useful medicine when traveling in China:
Aspirin: for pain or fever
Antihistamine: for allergies
Cold and Flu tablets
Multivitamins: when you stay China for a long time, your vitamin taken may be not adequate.
Insect repellent, sunscreen, lip balm and eye drop
Water purification tablets or iodine

Common Diseases in China:
Hepatitis A: The best efficient way to avoid this disease is to keep away from dirty food.
Hepatitis B: The best efficient way to avoid this disease is to receive the injections before coming to China.
Japanese B Encephalitis: This mosquito borne disease is very common in rural areas of China. Make sure you have received such injections.

Heath Recommendation:
Make sure that you have adequate health insurance. STA can sort such insurance covering theft, loss, trip cancellation and some dangerous activities.
Tap water is not considered safe to drink anywhere in China except Hong Kong.
