BEIJING, April 23, 2007 (Xinhuanet) -- What's the situation now in China?
20 human cases of bird flu have been reported in China and among them 13 died.
The Chinese government has launched an emergency plan to prevent the further spread of the virus, and to secure human safety. Some dramatic measures have been taken. All poultry within a 3-kilometer radius of the affected areas has been killed, and equipment from infected sites has been strictly sterilized. Poultry meat is rigorously inspected before it's allowed into the markets, and any suspicious stock is prohibited. Severe punishments are being imposed on anyone who dares violate the regulations.

SHANGHAI, Dec.05, 2005 (Uniquely China News Center) --
H5N1 virus is fatal but panic is high unnecessary. The virus only occurs in small parts of the country. China remains a safe country to travel.
1) All human cases reported in China occurred in rural areas, where locals keep poultry flocks and are in close contact with them. Bigger cities like Beijing , Shanghai , Xi'an and Guilin are free from the virus now.
2) It is safe to visit parks and zoos. There is no evidence of transmission from wild birds to humans. It makes sense not to come into too close a contact with birds at any time.
3) It is safe to consume poultry meat and eggs. So don't worry too much about your food when you are in China.
4) There is no evidence that Avian Influenza can be transmitted from person to person -no need for paranoia.
